This presentation will introduce the linked concepts of empathy and compassion, highlight their relevance to Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) providers, and provide an overview of existing evidence on the conceptualization and use of empathy and compassion in PM&R.
At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
1. Define what is meant by the related terms 'empathy' and 'compassion' in a healthcare context
2. Identify effective strategies for cultivating empathy and compassion in healthcare
3. Describe how empathy and compassion are conceptualized and used in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation settings.
