Dr. Jennifer Yao is a Clinical Associate Professor and Head of the UBC Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She obtained her medical degree from UBC and completed residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2002. Dr. Yao is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and was also the past Chair of the Specialty Committee in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Royal College. She has special interest in medical education and has a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education from the University of Dundee. She is actively involved with teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels at UBC. Her research interests are focused on stroke and brain injury rehabilitation.

Join us for a 1-hour session featuring Dr. Jennifer Yao. Dr. Yao will review the rationale for changes to competency-based education, describe the components of the CBD curriculum including the basis of assessment and progression in the CBD framework, identify ways in which residents can facilitate their learning and evaluation in the CBD curriculum and discuss potential impact on certification in the new model of training.
At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
Review the rationale for the change to competency-based education in specialty medicine in Canada
Describe the components of CBD (Competency by Design) curriculum design and how that is applied in PMR
Describe the basis of assessment and progression in the CBD framework
Identify ways in which residents can facilitate their learning and evaluation in the CBD curriculum
Discuss potential impact on certification in the CBD model of training
